Locks and Latches
We have selected a variety of high quality door locks and latches, from simple mortice latches to high security cylinder lock sets. Latches used in conjunction with lever handles or knobs allow the door to be shut, but not locked. For doors that need to be locked a locking device needs to be used, either: a bathroom lock (for bathrooms and toilets), a sashlock (for doors that need to be shut as well as locked) or a deadlock (for doors that need to be locked only or as an additional lock used with latches or nightlatches for additional security). The number of levers indicates how difficult it would be to pick the lock, generally 3 lever locks are recommended for internal use only and 5 lever locks are suitable for external doors and required by insurance companies. Additionally each lock would have a set of extra security features such as antidrill or antipick cylinders, included security escutcheons, recommendations from the Metropolitan Police (Secured by Design scheme).
